Friday Yarny Stuff & More Stuff

I'm working on a pretty somethin-somethin.

The yarn is so gorgeous I can hardly stand it.

Of course, I went online to get more and just as I suspected, they don't sell this color anymore. I'm convinced it's some kind of conspiracy to discontinue my favorite colors in every yarn! Reveal of this pretty thing very soon.

My Sammi Girl.

I got some tangerines at the grocery store this past week. They are so juicy and incredible!

Have a closer look.
Does it make your mouth water? It should!

This is not something I have the patience for, but it would make the cutest baby blanket. Here's the link to find the tutorial and a great blog:  Dada's Place

Remember this?

I got the yarn to make it the other day at JoAnn. They didn't have the navy flecked yarn, so I got some with green flecks and forest green for the accent color. The Captain picked it out. He wants me to make the blanket for him. :)

I gotta run. Have a wonderful weekend!

Food & Creepiness

The taco soup is in the crockpot for dinner.
YUM.
Haven't made it yet this winter.

I made some vanilla cupcakes this past weekend...

With chocolate frosting.
They were great. We ate them ALL.
Except one which I split up between the dogs (no frosting).
Recipe HERE.

The frosting is about 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1 stick of softened butter, 2 1/2 to 3 cups of powdered sugar, and enough milk to get the consistency I wanted which was about 1/4 cup or so. Also, I used an extra teaspoon of vanilla in the cupcakes instead of the vanilla bean seeds because I didn't have any.

And now the creepiness...

A gecko carcass!
Eww!

It was stiff as a board. See him eyeballing you? He's not as cute as the one in the insurance commercials, is he? Eww!

Eli thought it was cool though. He's the one who found it. I spoiled all his fun by taking it away and throwing it in the garbage.

Maybe you won't have nightmares about him coming for you with those eyeballs if I leave you with something cute...

Hee-hee-hee...

Daytona 500 Sunday

I'll be here today crocheting pineapples...

Watching the race...
(With the air conditioner on because it's in the 70s already today...in February. GAH. I hate to be hot.)

Making and eating Rotel Chicken Spaghetti.
These are all the ingredients you need.

Cook your spaghetti, mix all the ingredients together, add it to the noodles, put it in a greased 9 x 13 casserole dish, cover, and bake at 350 F. for 30 minutes or until hot all the way through. Serve with some hot, buttery, garlicky bread...and maybe a salad if you're in a healthy mood. I am not.

I'm bummed because my favorite ring that I NEVER take off broke last night for absolutely no reason. (I mean, no reason other than the fact I never take it off.  Ha.) I ordered what I hope will be my new favorite ring that I never take off from etsy this morning. I'll show it to you when I get it. Maybe the Captain can solder this one back together. I haven't asked him yet.

See ya.

Japanese Baby Cape

Pattern:  Japanese Baby Cape, Graph Only, HERE.
Yarn:  Fortissima Socka, Colorway 1050 (2 balls, see notes)
Hook:  Size G
Satisfaction Level:  I'm ga-ga over it!

Wow, was this fun to make!  I used the above sock yarn (that's a link if you want more info on it). It would work for a baby, but I think it looks great as a short bolero-type cape on my dress form in that last picture above. Would look cute over a sundress in the summer. I started with a chain of 101. On a baby, it would be gathered more around the neck and look smaller.

I'm going to have another cup of coffee and stare at it a little while longer.  :)

NOW WHAT?
I have a few ideas.
I know you're shocked.

Crochet and A Recipe

I've been looking for a granny heart pattern like this for ages. I saw one a few years ago that was white and made into a ring bearer's pillow, but there was no pattern with it. I'm happy with the way this turned out. Next time I'll put a white ruffly edge on it and make it extra special. Even though it's a little late for Valentines Day, I'll have it for my table next year!

Free Pattern:  HERE
Thanks Anna!

I got this magazine at JoAnn last Friday. If you don't have it and are a thread crochet lover, I do recommend it. It has several nice patterns I want to try...

This is one of them. Pretty, eh?

Great, Easy Recipe Alert!!

Season and brown some boneless porkchops...
Chop into bite-size chunks.
(I only used half of these in this recipe and saved the rest for another meal)

Throw the chopped up pork chops and the contents of these cans into an electric skillet or LARGE saucepan. (I get these at Wal-Mart. Sometimes they don't have the Chop Suey Vegetables so I have to go to another store to find them.)

Add 3 Tbsp of Soy Sauce and 3 Tbsp of Teriyaki Sauce. Mix well and let it all bubble away until everything is hot. Serve over white or brown rice.

Makes a lot and it's great!
Leftovers...yay, no cooking!

I got distracted from my Japanese Baby Cape yesterday and made that big RED heart instead of finishing it. I hope to finish the cape in the next couple of days. I only have three rows and the neck edging and tie left to do. It's so pretty! I can't wait to show it to you in all its glory.

Sneak Peek just for you...

Happy VD Weekend!

Ollie's Dog Stairs

I'm very excited because almost three weeks ago (Jan 27th) we bought some stairs for Ollie to use to get up on the bed.  I'm sick of having to pick him up every single time he wants up there.  I never did get my last Chihuahua, Little Boy, to use the stairs, but I was determined to make Ollie use them.  I kept telling the Captian that I was more stubborn than Ollie is and he was going to use them or never get up there again.  Well, guess what?  I was right!  I am more stubborn than he is!  It took him three weeks, but he finally got up there TWICE today without me saying a word or helping him at all.  YAY!!!  A breakthrough!  I'm ridiculously happy about it.  My little Ollie is a man today.  My patience and stubbornness paid off.

A "Real" Bakery!
Since it's was Valentines Day and all...

When we first walked in, I nearly died at this sight!
Seriously.  My heart beat sped up a little.

Such beautiful cakes she makes!

We brought home a box of various cookies and two pieces of Baklava, and we sat outside at a table on the sidewalk and shared a Napoleon and a Tiramisu with coffee. So indulgent.

And lookie what the Captain got me for Valentines Day...

An Etimo Rose Tulip Set of Crochet Hooks
Case, scissors, and needles included.

Pardon the glare.

I had dropped a few rather huge hints that this is what I wanted in lieu of flowers. I think I said something like, "This is what I want instead of flowers," and emailed him a link to purchase them. Ha-ha-ha. We have to ask for what we want, girls. Don't be shy!

And lest you think all we eat is CRAP...

These are the dinner salads I made the other night with our Tuna dinner.
So fresh and good!
(Sue me...I sprinkled some cheese on top)

And a pic of my veggie sandwich we had for lunch today out on the back porch.

The filling starting at the bottom:  Mustard & a little mayo, a slice of Pepper-Jack cheese, a thick layer of fresh baby spinach, cucumber, tomato, a good dose of dried oregano, and a little salt and black pepper, all on two slices of Orowheat Nuttygrain bread.

I have started the Japanese Baby Cape and it's looking good and going well. We have a NASCAR race tonight so I'll be working on that while watching. Yay...NASCAR is starting up again! I love it. Do you think I'm a hillbilly for loving it? Heh-heh.
