A So-So Baby Dress

I'm beyond frustrated trying to photograph this little dress and get a good, color-accurate picture. Please ignore the ugly-ass button I used temporarily too. I have ordered some totally cute ones that I hope will match this dress perfectly, but I don't expect to receive them anytime soon. Unbeknownst to me when I purchased them, they are coming from the other side of the world. I placed the order two days ago and haven't even gotten an acknowledgement. I may not receive them at all. Boo! Hiss!

Anywho, there will be two buttons, one on each strap, but only one is functional. I loved this pattern and didn't have any problems with it. I did change the yoke and edging. I didn't like the weird shell thingies on the yoke in the pattern, and the ruffly edging didn't appeal to me either. After all that, I still don't really love it.

Now the details:

Pattern:  Halter Ruffle Dress by Mon Petit Violon
Yarn:  Knit Picks Brava Sport in Almond & Persimmon
Hook Size:  G
Satisfaction Level:  Maybe I should have followed the pattern exactly because I'm not happy with the way it turned out. I'm not exactly sure why. The yoke is too narrow and I don't like the shell edging I put on it either. I do love the colors...just wish you could see them as they look in person.

  1. it's lovely Pammy Sue, I like your version more than the original, the shell edging is lovely and yes the yolk is narrow but I bet it looks really cute on a little baby girl. You have set me off now, it's ages since I made a little dress. :)

  2. The dress is very sweet. I didn't care for the embellishment on the yoke of the original either. Is this the new yarn you bought, I bet it is super soft. Have a great evening. Heather

  3. That is a great dress. I do not notice anything bad or ugly, just a great little girls dress. Can I say this? Quit putting your self/choices whatever down. No need to. Yes I said it so there....

  4. Ohhhh! This is really a cute dress and I love the color combination too! The color combo is so different than what I normally see so I love it that it is different. It's really cute!

  5. I think I prefer your version to the original which, to me looks too cluttered. Yours would look sweet either on its own as a sundress or if made in yarn, over one of those grow-suits (long onesie??). I also get frustrated sometimes trying to get the proper colour in photographs - lately I've been happier with the ones I get on my iPhone 5s. Off to do my chores now - see ya !! xox

  6. I think it's cute as can be! Why not add another row to the yoke in another color, or even two rows. You did a great job on it! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  10. Well, I can't get Ravelry to work right now to see the original, but I'm sure yours is prettier. I like the edging and the colors you used. Hopefully your buttons will arrive eventually. Great job :-)

  13. I understand your frustration! I have had the best color results when I photograph things outdoors in natural light -- usually under a shade tree with full sunlight. Since I don't have the lighting kit that a "real" photographer would use, that usually works pretty well.

  14. Okay, I'm sorry you aren't in love with it, but I think it is wonderful!! I love the yoke and border you did, too! blessings ~ tanna

  15. I am not seeing anything to not like..I think the dress is lovely. Pinks, reds, and purple can be really hard to get great pictures of..I was told to use, believe it or not, a pink background for those colors. I tried it and it works somewhat..but I am not a professional photographer..anyway your dress looks great and will really nice on some young toddler.

  18. You may not like it, but I do, lol. It is darling and love at first sight. Hope you get those buttons. It is frustrating when you have to wait for something that you probably wanted yesterday.

  20. Pammy Sue I made this exact dress a few months back. I thought it looked familiar. I didn't like the leaves on the yoke either but after it's done it doesn't look too bad. I like the changes you made to it. Every now and then I like to change up a pattern and customize it to my liking too. It turned out nice!

  21. I love your dress it is so cute. Love the pattern I just could see little on running around with this. I also buy some very different buttons and find they come from the other side of world but I gotten some unique buttons for my crochet cloche hats. There fun and whimsy too. Hope all is well with you. Take care.
