Puny & Sad

I saw this hat at Target the other day and didn't buy it because I know I can make something similar so easily with yarn already in my stash, blah, blah.  Of course I won't, and now I wish I'd bought it, even if it was priced too high. I would never line it with fleece either, and this one had a nice, creamy, soft lining.  I only saw one this color so I'm sure it's gone now. I did get a pair of black Ugg-type boots so now I have black and brown for this winter.

I've not been participating around blogland much lately because I've been about half sick with something -- cold/sinus/stomach bug/malaria/whatever. And it came the night before we started a big project with work. Shitty timing.

So unless something earth-shattering or completely hilarious happens that I simply must share with you, I'll be over here with a headache, wiping my nose, pooping, wiping my sore ass, sneezing, and typing.

Just so I don't leave you with that image in your head, I'll show you the new cookbook I got from Amazon the other day. I've had it on pre-order for a while now and was happy to see it on the porch. It did not disappoint and was a fun read, not to mention the good recipes I saw that I want to try. I've bookmarked at least a dozen...

P.S.  I lived on Clark AFB on the island of Luzon in the Philippines for about 5 years of my childhood because my daddy was in the Air Force. I feel so sad for those poor people...as if they didn't have it bad enough even on a good day with the poverty over there. I'm saying prayers for their devastated lives and country. I hope you do the same.

  1. Goodness, I hope you get better! That cookbook looks like a hoot.. does she share her biscuit recipe? I love cooking in cast iron, too. Don't work too hard.

  2. You musta wore yourself down and now you are sick. It's miserable to feel that way. I'm glad that my nursing career left me with the ability to discuss bowel movements and eat at the same time. I laughed when you mentioned the cookbook after confessing to a sore bottom.
My heart goes out to the people over there who are so dirt poor to begin with and then everything is taken away in a heartbeat. I'm sure people are asking God "WHY?". I would like to think that the "why" is because he wants to see how the rest of us lend a helping hand, no matter what it would be, prayers, money, hands on help. This sort of thing is way beyond my understanding. So many people need help in one way or another. What angers me is how there are people out there who will find this as an opportunity to scam and steal. I believe there is a special place for them in Hell, right next to the people who murder and molest.
Hope you get to feeling better soon.
I'm sending you this big ole hug to warm ya up.

  3. Hope you get to feelign better very soon.

Yeah, I see stuff over priced all the time at the store and never buy it because you really can make it for much cheaper, and use nicer yarn, too. :)

  4. Oh darn it, PS...that's short for Pammy Sue. I am going to call you PS now. Anyways...PS, get better. I hope you can rest and kick it to the curb. Tis the season for ickie stuff like that. I have just started a Zpak due to a lingering chest thing, probably bronchitis as I am prone to get. Love the hat. Darn, wish you had gotten it.
The book looks good. I will have to get it too.
And yes, the Phillipines are in my prayers as well. So very sad.

  5. I hope you feel better soon. Don't you worry about missing something on a blog, your health is much more important. I saw those hats too and thought the exact same thing. I'm actually beginning to think that learning how to make stuff can be a bit of a downer because now I feel guilty buying anything I could easily make for myself.

  7. Oh, Pammy Sue... I sure hope you are feeling better soon! Who has time for feeling bad?! None of us! I have to admit that we've become BIG fans of the Duck Folk in the past few months. They are just good people. blessings ~ tanna

  8. Boo for your sickness. I hope you feel better soon. I was hoping you'd post "apricot pie day" photos. Mom said you and B. went over Saturday and made pies and had fun. She said you took a lot of pictures.
Sorry work had to get busy right when you aren't feeling like doing anything. Bleh...

  9. I hate being sick..esp the sore bottom thing..hope you are feeling better this morning. I wonder why that hat is lined? Like the color too. I don't make hats too often as I forget to put them on until my ears are freezing while pumping gas or loading up the car with found treasures..Any way feel better soon..Blessings

  12. Take care of yourself, I had something like that and it turned into bronchitis. Looking forward to seeing you make something tasty from that book. Did you see the DD guys on the Country Music Awards last week?

  13. I do the same thing, talk myself out of buying things under the guise of one day making it myself which I rarely do.

Even under the weather you still have your healthy sense of humor! Get well soon! Prayers for you & the people of Phillipines.

    Blessings

  16. I saw this book at our local Library the other showcased, I thumbed through it, looks promising. Your winter hat is so pretty I love the colors, and it looks thousand times better than the target one. You have the talent to make them,,keep on.
I hope you are feeling more up to par today. Take Care
