Invasion of the Worms?

No, it's not a new movie...

We have these little mounds of dirt suddenly appearing in our backyard.

Here is a picture with Ollie in it so you can see the approximate size of them.
So it's not moles or gophers.

From what I have found on the Internet, it's earthworms making them. Supposedly it is filled with the poop of the worms and is the best fertilizer you can buy. If that's true, we're suddenly getting it for free because these mounds are all over our backyard, and we get more every day. We've never had them before, and I'm pretty sure we would have noticed them if we had. Does anybody know for sure that it's worms, or is it something else?

  2. I've never seen little piles like that. You're lucky to have little ones.. we have moles and they ruin our yard.. but since we live on a farm, I don't worry about it. I LOVE your big doily! I need to make one that size for my piano.. it needs a really big one. That pastel Chroma is yummy! I think your off-white shawl looks fab on the chair! I am really into shawls.. I'm nearly done with my blue/purple/green one.

  3. We used to get these and we would try and scoop it up and move it to the flower beds. If you leave it your lawn will get all bumpy and hard to mow. The best way to tell is really flood and spot and see if the worms come out. Whenever the sprinklers are on ours come up and head to the sidewalks to get warm and dry.

  4. Looks even worse on my small laptop. And even worse, worse, you know who is driving me to want to dig my own hole.

  5. We have chipmunks that make holes about that size. We're in a different part of the country and I don't know what sort of wildlife you have. Snakes???

  6. I can tell you for sure they are not rats... because we in New York get something similar... but mostly potholes and rats coming out of them.

    I hope that helps :P

  7. I heard that moles will clean out their underground homes, leave the pile just outside the hole and then cover over the hole so you won't see there was ever a hole there but there will be this little pile of stuff and if you move it aside, there will just be dirt under it.

  10. Hi Pammy Sue.. It is worms and you can deter them, simply by spreading garden lime on the grass.. Won't hurt them but they don't like it and go further down in the ground. We have the same problem in winter when it is wet and a few handfuls of lime works wonders and also makes the grass greener.. Hope that is a help.. :)
