Little Ollie

Ollie leg 1

I’m just sick, y’all.  Ollie either fell or jumped off of my lap at about 5:00 this afternoon and broke his leg.  Both of the bones in his leg broke through.  He’s at the vet for tonight and most of tomorrow under sedation because he’s in a lot of pain.  We should be able to go get him around 5:00 tomorrow.

The doc is going to try to splint his leg and re-x-ray it every two weeks or so to see if it is healing.  He said with little dogs like Ollie, it’s not uncommon for these type of breaks in this location to not heal properly.  Both broken ends just fuse shut instead of fusing back together.  In that case, he can send us to a specialist who can insert a plate, blah, blah, blah.

He’s going to have to be isolated from the other dogs and kept in a small area or kennel for the next month or so while that leg is trying to heal.  We’re just hoping for the best and not even thinking about “what if” just yet.  Some of you might think it’s silly to ask this for a dog, but say a little prayer for Ollie tonight anyway.

Of course, I will keep you updated.

  18. Poor little Ollie - and poor Pammy Sue! He's young, so I'm sure his bones will heal a whole lot faster and easier than they would in an older dog.

And it's not a bit silly to ask for prayers for a dog. I believe they are part of God's creation, and are sent to us for a reason.

Please keep us posted. All of us doggie mommies will have him on our minds until we know he's gonna be OK.

    Hugs to you and Ollie!

  30. Oh no...poor baby. I feel so bad for ya'll. I'll most definitely say a prayer. I love that little guy...and you too PS. xoxoxo You'll need to get a papoose so you can carry him around to keep him still. How are you going to be able to keep him isolated? That would just kill me. And don't you dare even think about the what if. Huge hugs to you and warm gentle hugs to Ollie. I bet you can't wait to bring him home.

  31. And seriously? There doesn't have to be a what if. If it doesn't heal properly you can get his leg amputated. He'll be just fine with 3 legs. I had Misty's amputated to keep her with me longer when she got bone cancer. I had her for another year and a half and even though I felt like a monster for having her leg amputated I got to love on her for that extra time until the front leg got cancer too. And she was just as fast on 3 as she was on 2. So I don't want to hear any more what if's. K? xxxxx

  32. Poor Ollie!! Will say a prayer for him. A friend had a 11 wk old pom puppy that broke both front legs a couple weeks ago and they told him the same thing but he is healing nicely and scurrying around despite the splints. Hopefully Ollie will too!

    Hugs!

  39. Oh NO! Listen if the bone doesn't heel think of removing the leg. My mum and dad paid thousands out for 3 operations on their dogs leg. It didn't work! Wally went through the operations, was in a lot of pain, cost a lot of money for nothing. Now he has only 3 legs he is a lot happier. It's worth thinking about before putting him through it. I hope he legs heals so that you won't have to decide.
