I’m not sure of the brand of the two pink and one baby blue.  The baby blue on the end is Baby Bee Sweet Delight.  It’s more of a Robin’s Egg Blue.  I’ve had all of these yarns forever.  I figure if someone will use them, they’re better off out of here.  I haven’t used hardly any out of any of the partial skeins.  They may be full skeins that I’ve just used a bit and then frogged and rewound it.

Creating

Well, hmm…

I’m going to start making bigger swaths of the dark teal and antique white.  I think that will really change the look of it.  The more I stare at it, the more I like it.  Oh, man.  I really, really love crocheting and manipulating the colors of yarn to creating something of my very own.  I’m dripping with sweet creative juices at the moment.

 

New Afghan in the Works

The Bell of the Fall

I made this afghan last October using The Garden Bell’s pattern for her Orphan Annie Afghan.  I gave it away as a retirement gift to a couple that we are good friends with.  They were both retiring at the same time last year.  I see it laying over the back of their couch when we go over there, and it makes me smile.

I started another afghan last night using this pattern.  I had forgotten what a fun pattern it is to crochet and how quickly it goes after the first couple of rows are out of the way and you have it committed to memory.  Mindless crochet is so relaxing.  I have to be careful because I tend to go overboard and crochet too long making my hands and arms ache like the devil.  I made myself stop last night after six rows.  The colors are very different than the fall colors in The Bell of the Fall, but they are beautiful.  I will give you a peek after I get all the colors in.

It’s 5-6 inches of my hair.

It was wet…that’s why it’s so dark.

I decided I was done with it yesterday and chopped it off into the bathroom sink.  I’m free!  It’s still a little longer than chin-length, and I don’t regret it one bit.  I’m going to stare at it for a few days and decide what I want to do with what’s left.  (No, I did not have a Brittany Spears crazy moment.  I really was sane when I did it!)

I am so disappointed!  I really don’t like it, and it photographs even worse than it looks in person.  Yuck.  I’m not sure what it is, but I’m thinking that the white makes the sand color look really dingey and dirty.  It just doesn’t work for me.  It’s an awful feeling to spend so much time on something and then have it turn out far below your expectations. 

I have a sick feeling in my tummy right now.  I mean, I know I there are much uglier afghans, but they weren’t mine!  LOL.  I’m just disappointed is all.  I knew I wasn’t liking it about half-way in, but I thought the border would really perk it up and make a difference. 

I’m feeling guilty for talking bad about it now.  Ha-ha.  How dumb.  It’s a nice blanket…just not my cup of tea.

WHATEVER.

WAH.

Lemon Chicken, Pasta Salad, Cookies

I got the Lemon Grilled Chicken recipe from The Sisters Cafe.  It’s as good as she says it is.  I’ll be making this one again and again.  I marinated my chicken from Friday evening until Sunday at noon, placed it on a hot grill pan for about a minute on each side to get the grill marks, and then baked it for 28 minutes.  I used boneless chicken breasts and bottled lemon juice.

The pasta salad is my Aunt’s.  Here it is below.  Left click on it and then print or paste it into a Word Doc and print.  I love this pasta salad and it goes great with this chicken.  I used Spiral Pasta, a large jar of diced pimentos, and a small can of sliced ripe olives instead of the red & green pepper.  It says not to use light mayo, but I did and it’s fine.  I added a Tbsp of oregano to the dressing because we both love oregano.

Have you seen these cookies at the grocery store?  They are REALLY good.  I’m a coconut lover.  These are neat because they come in 8 individual foil packets with 8 cookies in each one.

I’m putting the last round on The Sandman Ghan today.  I’ll post pictures later today or in the morning.

I’m starting my fourth row of the border right now.  About four or five more to go before I start the white edging.  I love this part!  I’m savoring every moment and scheming as I go about the white edging.  I think I found one in a Japanese book I’m going to try.  I’m not sure if it will work out or not, but I’m going to give it a go.

I’m hoping to have a Tah-Dah on the Sandman Ghan tomorrow night.  That’s an ambitious estimate.  It really depends on what work I have on Monday.  Yep, it’s back to work after a week of vacation tomorrow.  YUCK!  I want another week or two…or retirement would be even better.  Ha-ha.  I’m afraid that’s wishful thinking for a few more years anyway.

Plain Blanket Gets a Name

I have two more rows and a big border left to do and The Sandman Ghan will be finished.  I’m aiming for Sunday or Monday night.  It’s very plain, no?  I think the border I’m planning will make all the difference.  We’ll see in a few days.

Just for fun, here’s a different look at the Granny Wrap I made earlier this year.  I really love this.  I can’t believe nobody bought it for $45 freakin’ itty-bitty dollars in my etsy shop.  Oh well, it’s gone now.  Shop is closed.  I got tired of feeling insulted by no sales or interest.  I’ll just dress up my manikin and enjoy it all myself.

What else?

Some totally un-needed new yarn colors.  There’s a grape color that goes with these too, but I forgot to include it.  Surprisingly, it goes with these colors fantastically well.  That’s why I have to look at what everyone else is making…I can’t see these really pretty color combos in my head.  I saw a blanket on Ravelry made with these colors and thought it was gorgeous.

Look Closely

Mr. Ely was sick the whole way up to the cabin.  Bless his heart.  Thankfully, we knew he would probably do this so we had the back covered in old towels and mats with plenty of paper towels on hand.  Sammi & Fletch were huddled up on the other side of the car staring in horror.  Eww!  Don’t get any on us!  LOL.

Middles R Done

I’ve gotten all the middles made for my “plain” blanket.  I really need to think of a better name for it before that one sticks.  I have a couple of ideas I’m pondering.

I’m adding some solid linen squares throughout the blanket along with the ones with the colored middles.

 

I made some Molasses Cream Bars yesterday.  Mmm…  I know I’ve posted the recipe here before, but I couldn’t find it when I did a quick search for it.  I’m too lazy to type it all out right now.

I’ve got lots to do today so I’m outta here.  Bye.
