I’m babying that arm so won’t be posting for a few more days. I’ll be back soon I hope! It really needs to rest.
I’m furious that I can’t start on a baby blanket!! Grrr…
I finally got that cortisone shot in my left elbow today. I was to the point where my left arm was practically useless. I couldn’t even hold a cup of coffee with that hand because it hurt so much. It felt like it had a fever in it. Doc said that was the inflammation in there making it warmer than the rest of my arm. So I’m thrilled I finally got that shot and hopefully some relief and healing now.
Anywho…I’m not supposed to be typing! So I just came here to post some vacation pictures. You’ll notice I had a fascination with the azaleas which were in all their glory the days we were there. By the time we left, they were starting to fade away. But first…
All of the casinos are on huge riverboats. That’s how they get around the no-gambling laws. Apparently if you are “offshore” it doesn’t count!
The first “big win” of the trip. I bet $2 on this spin and won $640! This was the only time I remembered to take a picture. The Captain also won $650 in a poker tournament the next day. Then, not 30 minutes later, he won another $1360 on a slot machine.
You can’t tell it from this picture, but these powdered donuts were huge and had a ton of powdered sugar on them. There were also LOTS of other goodies tempting us every time we walked by this counter:
Cupcakes, candies, pastries, gigantic Whoopie Pies, brownies…
Pies and Cakes!
I swear we did not have one thing from this counter the entire time we were there! Really! But guess what? I got a 50% discount on the dinner buffet because I am 50 years old. My first “senior” discount! Ha-ha-ha! The Old Bag Discount. Cha-Ching!
I was stunned by the size of this Pecan Pie (and my ass in the mirrors on the elevators!). The slices of pie were 3 inches high! I thought everything was bigger in Texas, but apparently not pecan pie.
Now the flowers…
And whatever that pink thing is.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures today. See you tomorrow!
(That was me not typing.)
Teaser: I have some “NEWS!”
We were gone on a mini-vacation, but we’re back now. That’s why I haven’t posted since Thursday night. The Captain doesn’t like me to advertise that we will be away on my blog so I didn’t mention it beforehand. You know, with all the stalkers and paparazzi and burglars and such watching my every move. Hee-hee. Did you miss me?
We went to Shreveport & Bossier City, Louisiana and gambled our asses off! We had the best time together; just us. No dogs. We boarded them with our vet while we were gone. We both worried about them and missed them and were so happy to pick them up when we got into town. They survived.
I’ll be back later with a few pictures I took in Shreveport. Just wanted to let you know why I haven’t been here posting like normal and that we’re back!
I probably won’t get a chance to post tomorrow (Friday) so I’m posting tonight.
I’m really happy with this little project that I completed tonight while watching TV. It didn’t take me very long at all…maybe an hour and a half or so.
I have two more colors of this thin cotton yarn and will definitely be making more of these over the weekend. It’s about the thickness of baby yarn. (Sorry, but I can’t tell you the name of the yarn right now. I’ll have to check that.) They are so pretty and would make great little gifts. The votive inside it is an LED, not a real candle. I got a package of six at Hobby Lobby for around $5. I can’t remember exactly what I paid because it was back at Christmastime when I bought them. The jar is just a jelly jar I bought at Wal-Mart. I bought a case of jars for jelly-making a long time ago.
This is a great little free pattern and tutorial you can find HERE. Now that I’ve gone back and looked at the picture of hers, I can see that I didn’t do the finishing round of scallops exactly right. I’ll fix that on the next one. The tutorial was easy to follow and I had no problems with it. Thank you for sharing your pattern and tutorial, NW Nature Nut!
I got a new crochet book and a new cookbook in the mail today. Hate the crochet book and LOVE the cookbook. I should have known better than to order this book. I don’t even like crocheting that kind of stuff. I will most likely have another giveaway next month and give it to someone who does. Stay tuned. I promise not to make you jump through hoops. It’ll be a quickie too. Twenty four hours and BAM, it’s yours. I like simple.
I made cookies this afternoon…
Chocolate Cookie Bites
That is all.
As you were.
I had a rather severe case of road rage today when a man in a forklift jumped in front of me in a construction zone. He proceeded down the road at less than 10 mph refusing to pull off and let traffic by even though he had at least five opportunities to do so. I just happened to be the first vehicle in line behind him. AND I WAS ANGRY.
I had visions of pulling a gun from my glove box and shooting his Mexican ass off of that forklift. Good thing I didn’t have one.
Ten minutes later when we were less than a mile down the road, the vision of a gun had changed to a hatchet and I was chopping him up in little pieces and stomping on them. Raaawrrr!
I was one pissed-off, estrogen-starved woman! And there were plenty of pissed-off people behind me too. My blood pressure is raising just thinking about it again. Gawd! Asshole!
Let’s talk about some pleasant things, shall we?
Bread & Butter Pickles. They are good, y’all.
So is tuna. I love me some tuna salad. Do you? Tuna is one of those things my body craves about once a month at least. I have to have it. And Bread & Butter pickles are good with a tuna samich. I just had one. Must be why I’m all jacked-up about it, ya think?
I’ve been trying to crochet, but it just ain’t happenin’ right now. I’m having crocheter’s block, which is a lot like writer’s block only it’s crochet instead of writing. Please try to keep up so I don’t have to explain everything.
Have you ever had a really hard nap? I had one today after a particularly stressful morning. (See above shooting-a-Mexican-off-a-forklift story.) I woke up all dazed and disoriented and felt like total crap. My head still isn’t clear from it.
Okay, that’s it from me. Tomorrow will be better, yes?
Hello there. I’m feeling pretty good for only three hours sleep. Ask me again tonight when we’re at a poker get-together at some friends’ house and it’s midnight. Yes, I’m socializing! The horror! I have all day to psyche myself up to not be a freak about it. Oh, the pain.
I made another Tiramisu Cake yesterday to take. I’m usually the one that brings the dessert for everyone and I thought I’d impress everyone with this beautiful three-layer cake. I tweaked it this time by adding more coffee and Kahlua to it and I also doubled the filling. I’ll repost the recipe after we eat it and see if it’s better than the first one that was made strictly by the recipe.
For those of you who don’t know, this is Kahlua, a Mexican coffee flavored liqueur.
In other news…
I couldn’t get a good picture of this potholder to save my soul. I made it last night in about three hours while watching TV. It has a separate back and then is crocheted together so it’s nice and thick. Here’s another pic taken inside:
See what I mean? Not a good picture. If I try to lighten it up or enhance the colors, the red gets way too bright and looks fake and blurry. Anywho…You can find the free pattern HERE.
In celebrity news…
We were in the grocery store the other day when The Captain turned to me and said…
Captain: Hey, did you hear that actress – what’s her name – Reese something? She was stabbed while jogging in the park last night. What’s her last name? Reese…
Captain: No, with a knife!
Did I get you?
This is all the crocheting I’ve managed to do since Sunday. This is the new Chroma yarn and the start of my blanket of granny squares with it. I’m loving the peachy-pinkness of it so far. I’ve had a thing for orange lately.
The beans were rescued and turned out great after all. I’ve been eating them for three days and I’m not tired of them yet. It’s a keeper.
That’s kind of scary-looking.
And the winner is…
Nobody! I’m keeping it!
Send me your address, Debbie M!
Thank you all for playing and Following. I hope you stick around and keep reading even though you didn’t win. No pouting! Okay, you can pout but only for a little while. Then you must cheer up and do something nice for somebody…maybe a random act of kindness? That always makes you feel better, GUARANTEED!
When I whip this pie out of my arsenal of recipes, you know it’s Easter time and spring is just around the corner! I make it every year, and I love it. Nom-nom-nom.
It’s very easy and quick to put together. I’ve probably posted this recipe every year since I started blogging five or six years ago, but I’m posting it again. The recipe makes two pies, but you can halve it easily. That’s what I did last night when I made it. Here it is:
Pink Lemonade Pie w/Coconut
8 oz cream cheese (softened)
14-oz can sweetened condensed milk
12-oz can frozen pink lemonade concentrate *
3/4 to 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut (plus some to sprinkle on top)
Two 8-oz tubs of Cool Whip or one large
Red Food Coloring
Two Shortbread Pie Crust Shells
*Note: I only use about 3/4 of the lemonade concentrate because I think it’s too sour with the full 12 oz.
Combine first four ingredients with an electric mixer. Add 4-5 drops of red food coloring (color will lighten considerably once you add the Cool Whip). Fold in the Cool Whip until combined well. Pour into pie shells and top with more coconut. You can decorate it with some jelly beans if you’d like. They look cute on there nestled in the coconut. Cover and refrigerate at least four hours or overnight. This pie is good frozen too!
I’m making Bev’s Slow Cooker Baked Beans today. They’re in the crockpot simmering away. I’m making some Broccoli Cornbread to go with them for dinner. What’s that you say? You want THAT recipe too? Geez, you guys are high maintenance. Hee-hee.
Broccoli Cheese Cornbread
1 (10-oz) pkg of frozen chopped broccoli, thawed & drained
1 cup cottage cheese
1 onion, chopped
1/2 cup melted butter
1 (8.5 oz) box Jiffy Cornbread Mix
1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Lightly grease an 11” x 7” baking pan or spray with Pam (Not me, silly).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornbread mix and salt. Add the eggs, cottage cheese, onion, and melted butter. Mix well. Fold in the broccoli. Pour it into your baking pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Serve hot. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat in the microwave.
Less than 24 hours to the Giveaway deadline!
I saw a woman at Target today that looked just like that lady in Something About Mary that had a tan 40 shades too dark and hair 40 shades too light. I would give anything if I’d had my camera! But these will have to do:
I won’t make that picture too big because it’s scary. I swear I did a double-take like a cartoon character with the noise and everything. It might have actually been a little worse than this picture. They did this as a joke for the movie, but there are really people like this in the world that obviously don’t own a mirror…or a brain cell. I wonder if they got that it was a joke when they saw the movie? Maybe they did but just have no idea that they look just like that.
I’ve read that there are people that have some form of OCD and they can’t stop tanning. Yes, I’m sure it’s a disease and you are not just a stupid idiot trying to hold on to your youth or something. Whatever. Your tan looks great. Oh, and before you go, don’t forget your big bag-o-melanoma. See ya later.
Okay, enough of that nonsense. I’m bored. Can you tell?
Not great photos today because there’s not a lot of sunlight…
But you get the idea…

I was crossing my fingers that this yarn was going to be softer than Noro, and it definitely is. It’s so soft! And gorgeous. This is Knit Picks Chroma Yarn. I got the worsted weight in Smoothie and Sunrise. I plan to mix the two colors in a Granny Square Blanket much like the one below:
I saved this picture a long time ago, and I have no idea who to give the credit to. I just tried to find it again with no luck. Oh well. Who knows when I’ll get around to starting it because I have too many things already on my plate, but I’ll have the yarn when I’m ready.
That’s it. I’ve got nothing funny or amusing to say. Just have a great weekend, okay?
I hope you all are safe and sound from the earthquakes and Tsunamis. Take care.
