Death of a Blanket

DSCF5321

This is one of the first blankets I ever made about 12 years ago.  Good old Red Heart yarn and all DC stitches.

DSCF5319Within the last couple of years, I turned it over to the dogs.  They’ve loved it.  I usually keep it on the end of the bed for them to waller on at night, or it’s on the couch for them to bundle up in.  They are all blanket divers.  They love to be under the covers.  As you can see it’s worse for wear.  I can see three holes in this picture, one which has grown exponentially in the last week or so (the long one at the bottom).  It’s been through many cycles in the washer and dryer and held up beautifully until now.  It’s starting to disintegrate before my very eyes!  It’s used up.

I could repair it, and I did consider it, but I think it’s time.  It’s time to say goodbye.  Sniff-sniff.  I remember how proud I was of this blanket when I finished it.  Sniff-sniff.

Goodbye, old friend.

It is sad to see something go, isn't it? Especially something you probably put a lot of time and effort into.

I love the new look of your blog BTW... very festive!

I still have a few of my firsts too and one of them looks like yours pictured with holes. But it's been much loved and it sounds like yours was as well. I know you'll make another.....always more yarn to buy and more projects to start. :-)

Aw, that's a tough one to let go of but I think it's wonderful that it lasted for such a long time and got so much love!

I laughed when I read the title of your post! A very well loved blanket...now you must make a new one for your puppies. Oh, I love your new blog look! Very pretty! Glad you hear you are feeling better. No fun being sick. We spent the day at an Apple store looking at the new iPhone 4S. I'm hoping Santa brings us new cell phones this Christmas so we can retire our very old ones.

Another one bites the dust. Good riddance. Good job letting go. I have a feeling that you have another one to replace it. I know the first is hard to let go of. But, come on it was R.H. I am very proud of you for doing that...and also getting out of bed today.

Out with the old, and in with the new....so what afghan are ya gonna make to replace it?

I never get tired of seeing your sweet doggies. I think you should crochet Wiggle Butt his very own little sweater!

Glad you are feeling better. :)

Too bad you don't have a barn out back where stray cats could curl up on it. I just sent me hole-y lap pillow out to the barn for hubby to put on the tractor seat, where the wild cats like to curl up.

Twas a good blankie for a long time!

((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Awww, I have the roughest time letting go of anything handmade (by me or anyone else)because I know of all that has gone into it. It has served you all well & I'm sure the babies will especially miss it. My heart goes out to you all during this time of loss. *Ü*

Hugs,
♥Anita
