Granny’s Butt-Ugly Blanket

Granny Needs a Bath Ghan

I am so disappointed!  I really don’t like it, and it photographs even worse than it looks in person.  Yuck.  I’m not sure what it is, but I’m thinking that the white makes the sand color look really dingey and dirty.  It just doesn’t work for me.  It’s an awful feeling to spend so much time on something and then have it turn out far below your expectations.

I have a sick feeling in my tummy right now.  I mean, I know I there are much uglier afghans, but they weren’t mine!  LOL.  I’m just disappointed is all.  I knew I wasn’t liking it about half-way in, but I thought the border would really perk it up and make a difference.

I’m feeling guilty for talking bad about it now.  Ha-ha.  How dumb.  It’s a nice blanket…just not my cup of tea.

WHATEVER.

WAH.

Somebody needs a nap.

  1. It looks very nice. Maybe you would like it better if you removed the last rounds of white from the border and replaced it with the sand color. :)

  2. That's a good idea Debi! I may do that in a few days and see. I think you're right.

  5. I don't think it's as bad as you think. I'm actually liken' it. Everybody is getting so caught up in their palettes now because of you know who. This is nice and calm. I do like the idea about the sand row in the border too. But, set it aside and look at it a few days. You might surprise yourself and be more pleased. Now, go and ICE that arm I'm sure is hurting.

  6. Take a deep breath and I hope you feel better after your nap.

Personally I think it turned out nice just the way it is. I think it really depends on your color pallet weather you like it or not. Maybe Debi is right and it would look better with a different color border.

  7. I agree with Debi about replacing the border, the rest of it looks great!

  8. Pammy Sue: Put it away...fold up and put away...Then take it out a month from now you will be suprised how you feel...I think the Idea with the border is a good one. What do you do with your afghans display them?

  9. It's a very nice afghan Pammy Sue. I agree with the others, set it aside and take a look at in in a few days and see how you feel.

  10. How about crocheting some cute flowers in nice colors and placing them strategically. Brighten it up a bit?

  11. I love all the colors--I agree with the other two that said to just replace that last border. I think that will make everything blend very nicely. Gorgeous in its simplicity!

  12. I think its quite lovely the way it is

  13. Why "Ugh"????? I don't know. Maybe I just have bad taste but I really like it. It's simple with
just the right splash of color.

  14. I absolutely love it just the way it is!! It's beautiful and I didn't see one thing ugly on it. As a matter of fact as I scrolled down the page and looked at all the different pictures, I was thinking, "That border is gorgeous, I am going to have to try it on my next granny." So, It's up to you, but there is no denying it's beauty as a piece of Art.

  15. Snap out of it! There is nothing wrong with this afghan except you are tired of working on it. As the others have suggested, put it aside and look at it at a later date. Or you could pack it up and send it to SC :-)

  16. It's a nice blankey but the white edge is WRONG. Just change it and all will be well.

  17. I like everything you make. But if you really don't like it, donate it to a charity. I know what you mean though, being a quilter. I have worked many an hour on some quilts, and then I am not thrilled. That is an awful feeling.

  18. I agree with the majority, it's really pretty. From the first moment I saw the picture I really loved it. It is important that you like it and that is the bottom line.

  19. Everyone has different taste. Myself, I like it as it is.

  20. I'm with the ladies who suggested taking off the white and adding a row of the sand on the outside. That should do the trick.. and natural color is good! It would make a great gift for a guy.
    ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  21. Sorry, you won't get agreement from me ... I like this, in fact I think its striking. I also think you've been looking at it too long, also agree with putting it away for a bit then you will appreciate it.

  22. This is a lovely afghan, the colours are very masculine.

Maybe if you don't like a giveaway could be in order???? Would hate for you to have to look at it and not like it and think of all those puky names for it. Just sayin!

Love the blog, I follow in my Google Reader.

  23. I LOVE it Pammy! :) I agree with Neicee, put it away and look at it in a few weeks' time :)

  24. I agree with changing the outlying color. You can always donate the afghan to a nursing home or children's shelter. Either would be delighted with a precious hand crafted gift. It would be a touch of love that one person may be lacking in her/his life.

  25. I agree with Debi. It is a very neutral afghan and the white takes away from that I think.

I've felt like that on projects before. It's a bad feeling too.

Have a wonderful hump day! :o) xoxo

  26. I like this one! It isn't ugly at all. It's kind of masculine so maybe it would be a good one to give to a man.
I know how it feels to work so long on something and not be happy with it at the end but really...you did a great job and it looks very pretty...not dingy or dirty. Think "masculine" and maybe that will help.

  27. Hi Pammy Sue
I loved the blanket. I agree remove the white border it's too clean and bright and finish with the Sand colour. Love your work.

  28. I like it... wish the colors went with my house which needs cleaning up right now. I like the white just like it is- wouldnt change it if it was mine. The girls are right.... put it up for a while and look at it again. I don't think it's dingy at all! Too bad you closed your Etsy shop- that would be a good one.

  29. I'm sorry you feel that way because I was just thinking how pretty I thought it looked...

  30. I like it. I would leave the white alone and maybe add another round of color a little darker than the body of the throw. Or not! I think we crocheters tend to be more critical of our own work than others would be.

  31. Border too heavy for the lighter main blanket may be but it's not that bad lol
Far too critical you are lol

  32. you don't like it?? I'm sorry :( it sucks when you don't like the end result. I think it's gorgeous, I want to make one just like this! Maybe it will grow on you?
