Red Granny Blanket

TA-DAH!

I'm so happy with this.  I'm shocked that it only took 10 days, and I didn't even work on it some of those days.  I made this with 48 squares (equal number of two different color schemes), made three rounds of red granny stitches around all, two rounds of single crochet (one yellow and one blue), and then a 3-round border (2 blue and one red).  It measures approximately 56" x 44".  More info on it:

Pattern:  Inspired by Sandy's Merry Kringle Blanket.  Thank you, Sandy!  There is a similar free pattern called Primarily Country Afghan HERE.  You must register to access the pattern.

Hook:  I used a size J crochet hook but switched to a size K about half-way through when my dog stole my hook and hid it.  It didn't seem to make any difference.

Yarn:  I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in red, banana, and medium blue.  I'm not exactly sure how much I used, but I think it was 3 red, 2 medium blue, and 1 banana.

Border:  I used pieces of several different edging patterns from books I have for this one.

I'm going to watch football and stare at my blanket now.

  7. Absolutely beautiful.... I love the border too. Red is one of my favorite colors, and it looks really nice matched with the blue and yellow. I've been crocheting while watching football today, almost done with my baby things.

  12. Oh, My Goodness. You know this is my favorite of all of your's by far. Great color picks. Great, Great border. Looks like it was a lot of fun to do. Doesn't the border just finish them off so nicely. What's next, sweetie?

Bummer I missed the PIF earlier. I'm blaming it all on Scooter and Da Bears. Oh, well, maybe next time.

  16. Oh my goodness Pam!!! You rock!!! This is fabulous! I love red and yellow together, and this is just stunning! You have inspired me to get back to my granny squares. Although, when I first began to crochet in the summer, I chose my colors knowing nothing about yarn, and picked wools. I don't want to do a blanket in wools, so I will make enough grannies to make either a pillow or bag or something, and then make something with more suitable yarn for a blanket. Lovely..just lovely!! And THANK YOU for the post on the face stuff. I found 2 tubes and bought them. Used it today and am thrilled with it. I posted just now and gave a nod to your blog!!!

  22. This is lovely and I really like the edging you chose. Can you believe I have never made an entire granny afghan because I don't like sewing or piece work? Do you crochet your squares together or sew them?

Either way, I think you did a wonderful job. I like it. I may bite the bullet and start one for my daughter and then maybe she'll have it by Christmas LOL
