Sugar: Still the Devil
Confession time! I had THREE sno cones on Saturday. We went out garage-saleing all over town on Saturday and stopped at a little sno cone stand when we were finished. I had a small banana one, and it was so freakin' great! I told my cousin that I think they're putting crack in them, and I'm going to start calling them crack cones. Anyway, I begged and begged and just wouldn't let it go until Barnaby took me back there Saturday evening. We both had two small ones in different flavors. I had a pina colada and a grape, and he had a rootbeer and a Tiger's Blood. Ha-ha-ha. They name them those stupid names so kids will buy them. It was actually cherry and coconut mixed together. The banana is still the best out of all of them. Mmm, banana crack. I've said it before and I'll say it again...SUGAR IS THE DEVIL. Run for your lives!
I spent the entire day yesterday trying NOT to think about getting a sno cone. It didn't work. I thought about it, but I didn't actually go get one. I was more of a hermit than hungry I guess. I didn't want to leave the house. You can bet your sweet bippy if I had to leave the house, I would have driven straight to that little red stand with the flashing neon lights and gotten one. Or three.
So then I had a bag of really, really, really, really salty popcorn last night. Stupid move the night before weigh-in day. I supposedly gained 5 pounds from last week! I'll weigh again tomorrow or Wednesday when I haven't main-lined pure sodium. I still feel skinnier even though the scale doesn't say so.

So here's something really out of character for me...
Our neighborhood has a Neighborhood Watch now since my neighbor across the street was burglarized. She got everything together and got the ball rolling with it, and we even have a website now with a community bulletin board.
So I sent out an email to the entire neighborhood saying that I wanted to start a crochet group that will meet once or twice a month at my house if enough people responded that they were interested. I offered to teach anybody who wanted to learn, even though I have never done that before.
I've gotten 7 responses so far so it looks like it's a go! I hope I don't regret this.
Bye!

Sweet Pea Shawl
You can click on each one to see a bigger version if want. The pattern is from the book Stitch 'N Bitch Crochet: The Happy Hooker. I used Classic Elite Sock yarn (more like thread) and a size G hook.
See ya.

Monday Stuff
Eli keeps pulling at the pom-poms on my booties. One is gone, and the other one is barely hanging on. Maybe it's not such a good idea to have them on my shoes. Who can blame him? They're awfully tempting in a dog's eyes.
Dang it! While I was typing this, I kept hearing a popping noise coming from the area of the kitchen. Wondering what Eli was into now, I got up and went in there to find my six boiled eggs burning on the stove. I swear. I forgot I was even making them...AGAIN. It's amazing that I remember my name.

Purple Booties
I'm going to try another easier pattern for these next. Not that these were hard, but they took too long for my liking. Maybe I'm just too impatient, but whatever. I like the way the trim and pom-poms look so I'll add them to the next pattern.
The flash distorts the color of these. They are dark purple (more of an eggplant color) with lavender soles & trim.
It's weigh-in time tomorrow morning! Stay tuned.

I forgot how much I like this stitch. I have a WIP afghan stuffed somewhere made entirely from this stitch. I need to dig it out. It goes very quickly.
Yesterday:
I explained the Nutrisystem diet in the comments section of my first post today for anybody who is interested.
Here's an unblocked square I made this evening from the book, "101 Granny Squares."
I also made one bootie and the sole of another one. Picture when I'm finished.
I couldn't figure out how to get the picture off of the pdf file so i just snagged this one from Crochetville from jeannej. These are some that she made.Thursday, August 20, 2009

Crazy Crochet Scarf Lady
It's too easy! Don't tell anybody and they'll think we're crochet geniuses! Pinky Swear?
See how I get on something and obsess and do it to death? Sometimes it makes me crazy. And then other times, like with the shawl I started a few weeks ago and haven't picked up again, I can't make myself do something. And now I've crocheted so much and so obsessively that my arm muscles feel like I swam the English Channel six times or something. They hurt! Thank goodness for Tylenol and Naproxen. A cocktail of those babies helps mucho. Now I only feel like I swam the English Channel twice at most. And I don't know why I picked the English Channel, I just did. I don't even know how big it is. The English Channel is just something that you swim when you want to be in the record books or something, isn't it? Seems like it. Whatever. I digress.
There are so many more really cool scarf patterns out there. I really should finish my Sweet Pea Shawl or my Naomi Shawl or my Half-Moon Shawl. I have too many WIPs. Pop Quiz! Do you remember what that is? Pay attention, people!
I hate it that I can't think of anything to say. Oh well. Bye.

"Scarf" #3
This is how the back of it looks. It's like those scarves that you see that are called spiral scarves or corkscrew scarves. In fact, I saw one in a catalog last night that was not nearly as pretty or large as this one and they were asking $85 for it!
This one cost me about $3.50. That's right -- $3.50! It took less than 2 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver that cost me $2.17 each. I started making this at 3:00 yesterday afternoon and probably worked on it 4 hours yesterday and 3 hours today.

Back to Basics
Here's a link for the pattern: Free "Bumpy Scarf" Pattern I made the 3-color version using Red Heart light gray and black and ILTY in dark raspberry. I followed the pattern exactly for hook size and beginning chain length....easy & fun.
I'll most likely finish the next one tomorrow. It's about 1/4th of the way done now. See you then. Ta-ta.

You're Just Super
I can't believe not one single person called me a weirdo super-mindfreak or anything the other day when I said those balls of light in that picture were my relatives. But I know you were thinking it. You people are too nice to me. I expected at least one of you to make fun of it or at least comment, but you all just read it and let it go just like you do when I'm having a freakout about something and shoot my mouth off and cuss and just generally act like a heathen around here. I love you, man!
I just have a little tiny bit of work to finish this morning and then I'm free as a bird. Well, sort of. My cleaning lady is coming today so I'll be dog-sitting. I may just put them in the bedroom and run out and do a little shopping. We're going to Casino Night at the clubhouse where my mom and dad live, and I might buy a new shirt to wear or something. That's right. We're hanging out with wild & crazy, gamblin' senior citizens! I'll take them over people our own age any day.
Last time we went, there were some really drunk people by the end of the night. But they're all so old and use to drinking that nobody acted like an ass. They just kind of stumbled around with red eyes and slurred speech being sweet. Not everybody was drunk mind you, but there were a few.
Y'all have a great Friday, m'kay?

No More Mrs. Nice Guy
I discovered today, after starting the Sweet Pea Shawl over again in thread yesterday, that the shawl that I had half-finished and completely frogged yesterday was done correctly after all! And after doing it another way yesterday (with thread, no less), I had to rip all that out so I could do it the way I did the first time. Are you following me? It's okay if you're not. The gist of it is I'm just running around in circles over here. Don't mind me. I'll get dizzy and fall down soon. Good Lord.
I managed to get a heck of a lot of work done today, but even more than that came in. Yippee! she said sarcastically. What recession? After being warned of a big slow-down in work, it never happened. After reducing our rates to accommodate some clients with supposed waning resources, turns out we didn't need to. We screwed ourselves by being nice and trying to avoid something that didn't exist.
I'm not bitching...I'm just saying. Don't be nice when it's business, people! Be cutthroat and ruthless! It's dog eat dog! People will accept your generosity knowing full well they don't need it if it'll save them a buck. Don't volunteer anything! At the very least, make them ask, no beg! And then only give them half of what they want. Those are my rules from now on. Play or go home, bitches.
End of rant.
I dyed my hair today and it came out really red. That's okay because it fits my mood.
One more week until the new Ghost Hunters season starts! I can hardly wait. Tori & Dean ended already, and there's nothing to watch now.
Sorry, that's all I've got. How pathetic. Bye.

Crochet Lingo Lesson
Example of Sweet Pea Shawl
Anyway, so I frogged the whole thing. "Frogging" is a crochet term that means you ripped the stitches out of something and rewound the yarn. (Rip it, rip it, rip it, and rewind the yarn. Sounds like ribbit, ribbit, ribbit, like a frog. Hence, the term Frog or Frogging.)I have a few other WIPs in there. (Works-in-Progress or Work-in-Progress, another crochet term.) I guess I'll go pull something else out and finish it. Hopefully, I won't discover another project that has to be frogged.
One thing I know is in there is the Half-Moon Shawl. I snagged both of these pictures from Ravelry.com so you could see what they look like.
Half-Moon Shawl
Mine isn't done in this color. I used some Caron Simply Soft in Persimmon that I got on a clearance sale for next to nothing. It's kind of a cross between a peach and rose color.
I have to record a Webcast between 1:00-2:00 today and then transcribe it. I'm sure the subject is something terribly interesting like international tax laws or something. Fun-fun!
Later, taters.

My New Friend
And do you see those two balls of light that showed up in this picture? The biggest one is in the purple flowers on my desk, and the other one is on the far right-hand side and looks like a spot on the wall. The biggest one is my Granny, and the other one is my Aunt Pick. Aunt Pick was actually bigger than my Granny in real life, but I guess she was being shy today. They were both very excited when I put Milady together and dressed her up. I guess they never had a dress form when they were alive. (For some reason they didn't show up in the first picture I took with the exact same lighting, same position and everything.)
I'm not doing anything today. I have no work scheduled until tomorrow, and I don't feel like crocheting after having a hard time with it over the weekend. I had to rip out nine rows of the shawl I'm working on. Did I already tell you that? Maybe I did. Anyway, I don't even want to look at crochet for a couple of days at least.
Nutrisystem Day 7: I lost 2 measly pounds! I'm pissed and very discouraged today. I have plenty of reason to quit with the stomach aches (I think it's gas from all the veggies, but it could be my ovaries acting up. I hope it's not the latter. It's what I thought was maybe a bladder infection last week, but now I don't think that's it.) and the headaches and now with the itty-bitty weight loss. And I'm hungry and cranky. I'm not quitting, but I'm sure going to bitch and moan.
Goodbye.

Beau Rose Fleurs!
My Crepe Myrtles are in full bloom. Aren't they beautiful? This is just one of them in the front yard. I have two in the front yard and one giant one in the backyard that are all this same color. I have a Dwarf Crepe Myrtle in the sideyard that is purple.

My Friday So Far
Nutrisystem Day 4: It's going well and I haven't cheated one bit. I took my breakfast bar and an apple with me to the movies since it started at 10:45 am. I ate the bar but not the apple. I stopped at Starbucks on the way and snuck in a Venti Passion Iced Tea with three Splendas. I'm only weighing once a week, so I won't know how much I've lost until Monday morning. I know I've at least lost some water weight because I can see it in my face. No headache as of 2:00 today. I hope that part is over.
I wore my möbius to the movies over a green tank top with jeans. I thought it looked cute. My sister said she liked it and asked me to make her one too.
I'm going to go crochet on The Shawl some more. Hope you have a good Friday.

It's Official...
Oh my goodness y'all. I'm losing it. I just got up from a nap and came in here to read a few blogs. I've been contributing to another blog here: Grannies & Ripples This blog is crochet stuff only, specifically granny and ripple patterns, hence the name. When I just went there to read, there was an idiotic entry by me that was supposed to have been posted here! I had posted it earlier in the day and didn't look at it like I normally do after I posted it. I had inadvertently posted in the wrong place.
The gist of the entry was that I have a headache again, only I went on and on like I sometimes do. All of those ladies were probably going, "Who cares? Who is this idiot?" They are probably gathering at Town Square with torches to hunt me down and kick me out. Okay, maybe that's exaggerating a little.
But I was totally horrified when I saw it and immediately scrambled to delete it and apologize. Gawd! I really do need to pay more attention. Maybe I just need to get somewhere and be quiet for a few days. Like I always say to my dogs, "Get somewhere and lay down!"

A Meme
Here are the rules:
1. Collect the book you have most handy.
2. Turn to page 161.
3. Find the 5th complete sentence.
4. Cite the sentence on your blog.
5. Pass it on to five other blog friends.
This is Bev's sentence: "And yet . . . I couldn't help but remember how easily, effortlessly, Halcyon had snapped the chains once before." (From Mona Lisa Blossoming.)
Here is mine: "'What is it?' I asked, and I heard myself sounding terrified." (From An Ice Cold Grave by Charlaine Harris)
Dang it...mine wasn't very interesting, was it? And the crowd yelled, "Boo!"
And the three people I am tagging for this:
Patsy
Janis
Faith
Are you sad for me because I don't have more blogging friends? Don't be. I have more, but they are not the type to participate in these kinds of things, at least I don't think so. I could be wrong. So don't get your feelings hurt that I didn't tag you. And for those I am right about, you're welcome!
Holy Shit Batman!
You see, I had the scissors out first, and then I took out the thinning shears to thin out the hair on top of my head so that it would have more volume. I have very thin, limp hair. The thinning shears work great to make my hair stand up a little and have more body up there...EXCEPT WHEN YOU INADVERTENTLY PICK UP THE SCISSORS INSTEAD AND TAKE A BIG WHACK AT IT! Gah!
Do you know how long I've worked and waited for my hair to get some length? Do you? DO YOU?
And I can't go stress-eat anything because I'm on this damn diet!
AND -- I have a headache due to lack of caffeine!
AND AND -- I just generally feel like shit! (Here's Too Much Information For Ya: I think something is wrong with my urethra! It hurts! More on that another time, maybe...but probably not. Are you horrified that I just said that? Do women even have a urethra? I think they do. But if they don't, you know what I mean anyway.)
AND AND AND -- My toofie is bugging the crap out of me and I need to go to the dentist soon!
AND AND AND AND, NOW I have a giant bald spot because I'm an idiot and don't pay attention to anything!

Day One
I need to run to the grocery store this morning and get some fruit, veggies, and dairy to supplement the entrees they provide. It should be very simple.
I just had my breakfast: A Chocolate Chip Scone and a Vanilla Yogurt. Not bad. I didn't have a fruit like I was supposed to because I don't have anything. I'll have it as part of my afternoon snack later when I've done the grocery shopping.
I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do about the coffee consumption I'm used to. I can have unlimited coffee, but it doesn't say anything about how, or even if, I can have any creamer in it, and creamer is not listed in the free foods or extra foods. I'm sure I can just count it as part of a dairy serving. Guess I'd better call and find out. I don't even want to cheat a little bit and not count it.
Nothing else is happening today except a little work. I should be done by noon. Not sure what I'll do other than go to the grocery store. Bye.

A Möbius?
This is a Möbius:
I made this over the past three days just crocheting on it a little each day, maybe an hour or a little more each time. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I was a little worried how it was going to look using the yarn I used, but I really like it. I wish you could see the little sparklies in the yarn, but they don't show up in this picture. How pretty would this be over a black dress or strapless top?
I used an I crochet hook and some yarn I already had which was Bernat Baby Coordinates in Natural. It took less than one skein of this yarn to make it. You can see in the picture how much was left of that 431-yard skein. I purchased the pattern from Gourmet Crochet.
P.S. Eli is just fine now. He ate lunch and is playing like usual.
Welcome to this episode of Pet Emergency!
I spilled a particular bottle full of capsules on the kitchen floor and they scattered about. Of course, before I could gather them all up, I turned around just in time to see Eli chewing one up and swallowing it. GAH!
"THAT WILL KILL HIM!" I yelled. "Catch him!"
Much running and chasing and yelling ensued.
Barnaby finally caught him and we stood there blankly staring at each other wondering what to do now that we'd captured him.
I quickly ran to my computer and Googled "Poison Control for Dogs." I called the 800 number and got a series of prompts until a recording came on telling me they wanted to charge $60 on a credit card to continue the call. "You BASTARDS!" I screamed and slammed down the phone.
I then Googled "How to make your dog vomit." A number of sites recommended that you use hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. In Eli's case, 1 capful to be repeated in 5 minutes if vomiting does not begin.
I shot the recommended amount down his throat with a syringe. (I always have a syringe handy to administer liquid medicines to my dogs.) We secluded him from the other dogs and sat with him on the bathroom floor. Much tummy rumbling could be heard, but no vomiting occured.
Another dose was administered, and within 1 minute, he began that heaving thing that dogs do just before they vomit. He threw up three piles of vomit which included the contents of the capsule.
Whew! It worked! Trajedy averted.
"I don't feel good, Momma."
If I was a really good blogger friend, I would have taken pictures during the process. I'm sorry I have no vomit pictures for you.
Ah well, maybe next time.

Um, thanks for the pretty sweater?

Um, no.

Whatever, Whore!
