It's a beautiful day here in Texas, albeit hot (High of 95 today). I feel good. Everything is good. No complaints.
Oh, I've lost 2lbs with the diet and exercise lately. I'm going to keep track here and let you know when there are changes in weight or whatever. It's the accountability thing, don't ya know. It helps. I still feel really motivated and determined. I'm going to lose this chunk of weight that's dragging me down and get strong and healthy once and for all. Yay. Go me.
Y'all have a great one!

I downloaded some Daily Food and Activity Logs at ShapeUp.Org, and printed them. I ended up eating really well today. As usual, I ate most of my calories between 4:00-9:30. I like to eat dinner around 4:00-4:30 pm, like I'm 85 years old or something, and then I get hungry around 7:00 pm and again around 9:00 pm. Everything I ate was good for me except that 1/2 of a Snickers I ate (I split a whole one with Barnaby). That's what I get for buying it. Doh!
A nutritionist would try to tell me if I'd eat more at the beginning of the day I wouldn't be so hungry and overeat at night, but that's bull. I've tried it. It doesn't work. I eat in the evening whether I'm hungry or not. And I sleep so much better when my stomach is on the full side. If it's not, then I get up in the middle of the night and eat whatever I can get my hands on -- usually crackers of some kind, or a peanut butter sandwich, or cookies if we have any, and skim milk. You gotta have milk with a snack. And whatever I eat always tastes great because it feels like I'm sneaking it. That's so weird. I'm a grown woman in my own house. Why does it feel like I'm doing something I'm not supposed to?
I ate 1/2 of a baked chicken breast, raw baby carrots and cucumber for dinner. Then I watched TV (reruns of Ghost Hunters) while I did three loads of laundry -- sheets, blankets, and dog bedding. Then I ate 1/2 of a Snickers, 1/2 of a peanut butter sandwich, and a bowl of cereal with skim milk. Ugh. I'm full now.
I just happened this time to be standing in the laundry room well after I had started the washer, and all of a sudden water started running all over the floor. I yelled some kind of profanity, I'm sure, and the dogs started barking, and Barnaby ran in to see what all the commotion was about. We never did figure out exactly where the water was coming from, and I ran another load of laundry through the washer with no problem. I think the hose was probably jammed up with dog hair, and when Barnaby moved the washer to look behind it, the hose straightened out enough to clear the clog. That's my guess since everything else in this house has been jammed up with dog hair at one time or another, and I was washing dog stuff. Do you think that's gross? I don't. Doesn't bother me in the least! I sure would like one of those new front-loader washers though. I was kind of disappointed when the old one unjammed, to tell you the truth.
We are not having Lowe's install the tile in the master bedroom. They are charging us WAY too much for the labor (over $1500 -- the tile and supplies are less than $700) and Barnaby has decided to do it himself. I know. I don't have the energy to argue with him. If he wants to do it and it saves us $1500, then what do I care? Maybe I CAN get one of those new front-loader washers.
Okay, it's almost 10:30. It's way past time for my happy place and a magazine article or two. L.B. is beside himself because we aren't there yet.
I made myself get out there and walk. I didn't want to. The weather is so cool this morning, though, I couldn't justify not going so I did. I'm going to have to start doing most of my walking on the treamill because it's just too hot and humid most of the time. Suck it up, Pam, and just do it one way or another.
I have no idea what I'm going to do all day today. Guess I'll have another cup of coffee and contemplate it.

My Pink Panther rubber keychain. Someone is always commenting on it when I check out at stores. I love the Pink Panther! I bought two in case something happens to this one. For some weird reason, the other one is in the medicine cabinet.
This little teapot lamp that Boon Pappy gave me for Christmas one year. It's on top of my fridge. A purple sugar shaker I bought randomly on eBay.
This black & white picture of Nicki & me that was taken by Barnaby in the early '90s. If you look really hard, you can see Kitty looking out the front door. (Click on the picture and you'll see a larger version. At least I think so.)
This stupid wooden African lady I bought in Miami. I don't know why I like her. (Or maybe it's a him because he has no boobs?) I think of it as a her.
This Bonnie Bell Biggie Lip Smacker. It's big and fat, and I love it. I keep it next to my bed so I can use it while I read magazines and watch TV. Love it! I got mine at Target for about $3.50.
I love nanners!

Doc thinks it's the Vitamin D boosting my immune system, but he can't say for sure. He also thinks it will eventually fix my tight, spasming muscles, too, once the levels are up and steady. I went to see him for another blood test to check the D level today. He doesn't think it's where it should be yet because of everything I've described that's going on lately is still happening except the wart and the sleeping issue. We'll see. I'm definitely going to keep with it, though, either way. He'll drop me down to 2,000 IUs per day once the level is where he wants it.
Anywho, it's a MIRACLE, that's what it is.
This is the end of, "More than you ever wanted to know about warts and Vitamin D but were afraid to ask." I promise I won't talk about it anymore.
You know that's a lie, right?

I'm on my way to Target to buy some kitchen towels. Several of mine have mysteriously disappeared lately. I'm not accusing anyone (Barnaby!), but since there are only the two of us here most of the time, I'm just saying. Mayhaps somebody (Barnaby!) used a couple for oil rags or something I might freak out about, and instead of owning up to it, just threw them away? Just maybe?
I always buy hand towels in the bath section for kitchen towels. The regular kitchen towels in the kitchen section are all just too thin and nonabsorbant. Has anybody else noticed that?
I'm going to tell you about a miracle I have blessed with in my next post. It's a miracle, a true-blue spectacle, a miracle come true. (That's a song from the 70s in case you didn't know.) And it's not the face of Jesus in a Cheeto or some stupid shit like that either. It's real!

I'm going to update again today just because I want to. I don't have to have a reason. Stop hounding me.
I gave up trying to get all of them in one picture. Phoebe was mid-bark. She was bitchin at me to just take the picture already. Little Boy is under the coffee table acting like a weirdo and not wanting his picture taken. Whatever, L.B.
Sammy looks totally drunk. She cracks me up.The walking thing is still going great. I'm still walking every other day 3-4 miles. Well, today I only did 2.5 because the back of my left thigh hurts like an SOB. I musta pulled it stopping to pick up a penny. I always pick up pennies, and it really hurts after I've been walking awhile because my muscles are really really tight. Why are my leg muscles really really tight like that when I walk? Does anybody know? They don't loosen-up after I get warmed up either. They're tight the whole time. They're like wound-up rubber bands that could pop and break at any second. And have I ever mentioned I sweat like a pig? I'm pretty sure I have, but I'm mentioning it again. I sweat like a freakin' pig, people! Well, not really like a pig. It doesn't come out my nose or anything, but I sweat a lot. My hair gets soaking wet just washing the dishes. You can imagine what I look like after walking 4 miles. Ick. Red-faced, wet, tight-legged, pennies in my pocket, iPod-listening, pot-bellied lady just trying to get some exercise. Stop making fun of me. At least I'm out there!
New Weight Bench. I know. I've gone crazy.
A guy came and measured the master bedroom and bath today. I went and picked out some tile at Lowe's yesterday. I want carpet in the bedroom, but Barnaby wants tile because of the dogs and I let him have his way. I'll take pictures when it's done. I have to wait for them to call me to schedule the installation.
I hate American Idol this season. I don't like either of the two finalists. In fact, I didn't like any of the contestants, period, except Jason Castro, and even he got on my nerves after awhile. I don't like David Archeletta at all. He's a snot-nosed little kid. Who wants to hear a 10-year-old sing? He's not really 10 years old. I think he's 17, but he looks and sounds like he's 10. Eww. It's creepy. And that other guy, David Cook, has a comb-over. Dude, stop trying to hide the fact that you're balding. It only accentuates it.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake
I just happened to catch Fergie performing on the Today Show a few minutes ago. I'm sorry, but it was SO STUPID! I was embarassed for her.

b) Did you kill the bird?
c) It died horribly -- that much was clear.
d) You're psycho.
e) Do I know you?
f) If I do know you, I don't want to know you.
g) If I don't know you, what did I do to inspire you to put a dead bird in my mailbox?
h) I don't know how to disinfect a mailbox from a dead bird. I'm worried about diseases and have used five different kinds of cleaner but still feel like the bird's still in there still, and like, my bills and my catalogues and my coupons have dead bird on them.
i) It was a hummingbird. I looked it up. This is so f*ing psycho. I can't believe this.
j) Are you the mailman?
k) I'm always nice to the mailman!
l) Barnaby didn't care when I told him what happened.
m) The neighbors didn't care either.
n) Do you have some kind of problem with birds?
o) Don't put anything else in my mailbox.
p) Unless it's an apology.
q) No, I take that back, I don't even want an apology.
r) What am I supposed to do with this bird? It's in bubblewrap in a bag in a shoebox in the freezer right now. Am I supposed to bury it? Where? How? In a construction site where they've jackhammered through the concrete? Where is a person supposed to bury things in this city?
s) I could drop it in gutter, but that seems undignified.
t) I could drop it in the lake, but the lake is so big and it is such a small bird.
u) I could drop it in the toilet, but it would probably get stuck.
v) I hear this whirring around my ears every time I go to the mailbox and I'm pretty sure it's ghost bird, and I'm all "it wasn't me that killed you, bird!" but still the whirring doesn't go away until I get in the house.
w) Am I supposed to eat it - maybe you were trying to feed me - don't you know I'm a vegetarian
x) If this was Mark, I'm gonna beat your ass
y) If this was Gina, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, how many times I gotta say I'm sorry?
z) I could drop it off the roof. Maybe it will reincarnate while falling and I can start reading my mail again.

I gotta say, for a 47-year old woman who doesn't do SQUAT for exercise, I've got good genes or something, because I seem to be able to pick up exercise pretty quickly without it kicking my ass too bad when I put my mind to it. I don't have to start from scratch and walk for only 10 minutes before I'm sucking wind. Thank ya, Jesus.
WARNING: Potty-mouth rant ahead...
My dad greeted me this morning by saying, "Hi, Chubby!"
GAWD! What is wrong with you men? What the hell? Unless you are a woman's personal physician, shut the fuck up about her weight, will ya? Jeez! Trust me. She knows if she has a fat ass and doesn't need you to tell her. And besides all that, take a look in the mirror, Lumpy.
End of potty-mouth rant. That wasn't too bad for me really. Just one "F-word" is pretty lame if you ask me. It barely deserves a warning.
I gotta get some work done now. See ya.

What I've done over the past few days:
Baked bread (Steakhouse Brown Bread -- just okay. It was a little bit bitter for some reason. I thought it would be too sweet because it had 1/4 cup of molasses and 2 tbsps brown sugar, but it wasn't -- and Garlic Yeast Bread, which I didn't try because I gave it to my mom.) I'm going to make another loaf of the garlic bread today at Barnaby's request.
Crocheted -- I'm determined to finish my sister's burgandy shell afghan before summer! That damn thing has been hanging around here for at least three years -- no lie. It's my favorite afghan of all I've made so far, which is about seven, so I don't know why it's taking so long for me to finish it.
Baked a cake -- It was for Mother's Day coffee at my sister's house yesterday. Elvis Presley Cake (basically a white cake with pineapple & juice poured over it and cream cheese frosting). It was really good. I tweaked the recipe a little by only using 3/4 cup of sugar in the pineapple instead of 2 cups, and it was still very sweet. I also used a big can instead of a little can of pineapple. It's a keeper.
Mother's Day -- Like I mentioned, we had coffee and cake over at my sister's yesterday afternoon at 3:00.
Sold the couch & loveseat -- We sold the couches to the lady who cleans my house. Actually, we traded her for house cleanings instead of taking cash. My living room only has two recliners, a coffee table, and an end table now. There's much more room now. I loved the couch and loveseat, but they were just to big for our living room. It was claustrophobic. I'm not sure what we're going to do now. Probably nothing for awhile, and then we'll probably end up buying a smaller couch sometime down the road.
Ripped out the carpet in the master bedroom -- I removed it on Friday. It was dirty and bugged me, so it's gone. Barnaby was making a trip to the dump on Saturday, so I figured this was a good time to get rid of it. I'm getting another estimate for new carpet and/or tile floors. I already got one estimate, but I think it was too high.
Slept, napped, drank loads of coffee, went out to eat Italian food, went to Lowe's, pruned the roses, worked just a little, did a little laundry, dyed my hair, and that about covers it.
Tumah update: I'm not too concerned about it despite the drama queen antics when I first noticed it. From all I've read, I self-diagnosed it as a ganglion cyst and nothing to freak out about. If it gets worse or bothers me, I'll see a doctor about it. Until then I'll just draw a smiley face on it and maybe some teeth and hair. He'll keep me company or try to cripple or kill me. We'll see.
Sammi has turned into the sweetest little lovebug since Fletch arrived. She's not nearly as wild and bratty as she was. She wants to cuddle and be petted and held all the time -- that is, when she's not playing with Fletch. She loves that she has somebody to run and play with now that can keep up with her. She loves for him to chase her around the yard. They're definitely good buddies.
On the agenda for today: Finishing laundry, going for an hour-long walk, monitoring email for work, although I'm not expecting any today, and baking that garlic bread.

I immediately Googled "wrist tumor," and the first thing that popped up was this:
It's looks like the exact same thing to me. Doesn't it to you? Doesn't it? It does!
I made two loaves of bread yesterday, and this is one of them. They both turned out great, but this one was the best because it rose really high and had a great texture. The other loaf was a Rosemary bread. It tasted really good but didn't rise as high as this one. This one's a keeper. I got it off of allrecipes.com under bread machine breads.
This is the Bluebery Buckle I told you about yesterday. Yum. It's definitely a keeper recipe too.
I was disappointed yesterday because the rain and storms never came. They all went just north of us. Stupid weatherman.
I slept maybe 2 hours last night -- actually, none last night but two hours between 6:00 and 8:00 this morning. I hate when that happens. It's miserable. I finally got up at 2:50 and watched some recorded shows. I've been recording a show called "Women in Prison" or something like that, and it's pretty good. I guess anything would be good when you're bored to death and can't sleep though!
I've also been recording and watching a show called "The Alaska Experiment" on the Discovery Channel. It's pretty good too. Check it out if you need a new show to watch.
My really high goal for today is to dye my hair. If I get that done, I'll be happy. Some lofty goal, huh? Give me a break -- I didn't sleep! I need 8-10 hours of sleep or I'm no good. Two hours is just ridiculous. I'll break out the Benadryl and muscle relaxers tonight. That ought to do the trick.

Okay, that was lame, but at least I'm trying.
We smoked some salmon on Monday night, and it turned out terrific. Man, is it good! I had a little of it right when it came off the smoker, and I refrigerated the rest and mixed it with a little Miracle Whip, cilantro, and tomatoes, and ate it on Triscuits for lunch yesterday. YUM. We're going to try smoking a brisket next weekend.
Oh, and we also smoked two big onions to use in a salsa recipe that Barnaby got for me. He had it at a poker game at someone's house and thought it was the best he'd ever eaten. I'll probably be making it today, so we'll see. To smoke an onion, you just peel it, cut both ends off, and slice it like you are slicing a pie, but only slice it about 3/4 of the way through so it remains intact. Then you stuff some butter down inside the slices, sprinkle some garlic powder on it, and wrap it in foil leaving the foil open at the top. Set it inside the smoker and let it go for two hours.
I found this in one of my magazines, but I can't remember which one:
"From May 3 to May 11, if you bring an old pair of business shoes *any brand) to a Naturalizer store, they'll donate your pair and a brand new pair to the local Dress for Success -- a nonprofit group that equips low-income women with professional attire. Plus, you'll get a coupon for 20 percent off at the store."
Naturalizer shoes are so comfortable! I got a pair of sandals at a DSW Shoe Warehouse once at a discounted price, and they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. They are so expensive at regular price, though, that I haven't bought another pair. Most of them start at about $69.
If you're interested, you can go to www.dressforsuccess.org for more info.
I made a Blueberry Buckle yesterday that was fantastic. I'm trying to decide what to bake for my mom on Mother's Day. Go HERE for the recipe. I kind of wanted something a little more fancy pants than coffee cake, but it was so good, I think I'm going to go with it. I followed the recipe exactly, and it was perfect.
Spring Gardening News:
I bought a big Wisteria plant at Lowe's but haven't planted it yet. Barnaby is going to build me a trellis this weekend for the end of the porch, and that's where I'm going to put it.
I also got some cuttings of Jasmine and some other plant I can't identify from a neighbor. I'm trying to get them to take root using several different methods I read about in the Internet. I'll have to take a picture of the unidentified plant and see if any of y'all know what it is. I've driven myself crazy looking for it with no success.
I've also planted some Blue Hill Sage and Lavender.
The Columbine flowers I planted last year came back and are doing fantastic. They have produced a ton of flowers already and are really pretty.
My beloved Rosemary that I planted in the front flower bed by the front door is gigantic now. I absolutely love it! The others I planted are still alive, but haven't grown as much.
The roses are all doing well, especially the Iceberg I planted last year. I finally got an Iceberg to live on my third attempt, and it's producing lots of flowers.
Enough with the gardening talk already. I'll get some pictures and blather on about them later.
It's been raining here since Monday, and I'm loving it. It's supposed to storm and rain the first part of the day today and clear-up in the late afternoon. It hasn't started raining yet but looks like it could any minute. I'm going to stay inside today and bake some bread, crochet, and catch up on the laundry.

I've been smoking! More tomorrow.

I had a root canal yesterday on a toof that had been hurting since Friday night. Fun, fun, fun! My toofs look much better now, no?
